International Day to Combat Islamophobia Trainings RSVP with Dr. Amer Ahmed
In recognition of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, the Office of Academic Excellence and Opportunity will host a two-part training series for faculty and staff focused on understanding and addressing Islamophobia in higher education. These sessions will explore how Islamophobia can appear in academic spaces, including classroom dynamics, campus discourse, and institutional culture. Participants will engage with real-world case studies and guided discussion designed to build practical strategies for responding to bias, supporting Muslim students and colleagues, and fostering welcoming learning environments. The sessions will emphasize concrete tools that faculty and staff can use in their teaching, advising, and daily interactions. Topics will include recognizing common forms of Islamophobia in academic contexts, responding effectively when incidents occur, and integrating practices that affirm the experiences of Muslim students.
The training will be facilitated by Amer Ahmed, an internationally recognized scholar and educator whose work focuses on higher education. Dr. Ahmed has spent more than two decades working with universities and organizations across the United States and globally to address issues of Islamophobia and build welcoming communities.
