The Office of Academic Excellence & Opportunity fosters collaboration across Tulane University through a range of working groups and committees dedicated to advancing the university’s core value of Welcoming Community. These groups bring together faculty, staff, and students from offices and units to develop initiatives that promote high-impact teaching, learning, and living across academic and campus life. Through strategic partnerships and ongoing dialogue, they work to create meaningful opportunities for engagement, strengthen support systems, and ensure that Tulane remains a place that empowers all Tulanians to reach their full potential.

The Antisemitism Working Group
The Antisemitism Working Group brings together key campus partners, including Tulane Hillel, the Grant Center for the Jewish American Experience, the Department of Jewish Studies, Tulane Libraries, Student Affairs, Student Conduct, and more, to address and prevent antisemitism at Tulane. Through education, policy development, and community engagement, the group works to foster a campus environment that is supportive for Jewish students, faculty, and staff. By coordinating resources, hosting programs, and facilitating dialogue, the working group strengthens Tulane’s commitment to combating antisemitism.
The Islamophobia Working Group
The Islamophobia Working Group collaborates with the Muslim Student Association, Student Affairs, Student Conduct, the Campus Imam, and other key campus partners to address and prevent Islamophobia at Tulane. Committed to fostering a more supportive environment for Muslim students, faculty, and staff, the group focuses on education, advocacy, and policy development. Through programming, resource coordination, and open dialogue, the working group works to combat bias and promote religious and cultural understanding.
The Anti-Discrimination Working Group
The Anti-Discrimination Working Group, in collaboration with Human Resources (HR), Student Affairs, Student Conduct, and other campus partners, work to address and mitigate bias at Tulane. These groups focus on identifying challenges, enhancing reporting and response mechanisms, and fostering a campus culture that actively confronts discrimination. Through education, policy recommendations, and community engagement, the Bias Working Group support Tulane’s commitment to creating a learning and working environment where all individuals feel valued..
The AEO Student Feedback Committee
The AEO Student Feedback Committee, in partnership with Student Affairs and the Carolyn Barber-Pierre Center for Intercultural Life, provides a structured space for students to share their experiences and perspectives on academic excellence, opportunity, and the student experience at Tulane. This committee ensures that student voices play a central role in shaping policies, programs, and initiatives that promote a more supportive learning environment. By fostering open dialogue and collaboration, the committee helps identify barriers, propose solutions, and strengthen Tulane’s commitment to a welcoming community for all students.
The AEO Council is a network of faculty and staff from across Tulane’s schools and units whose jobs are dedicated to advancing academic excellence and opportunity. Bringing together professionals whose work directly supports student success, excellence, and opportunity the council fosters collaboration, shares best practices, and develops strategies to enhance academic support systems across the university. By aligning efforts and resources, the AEO Council strengthens Tulane’s commitment to creating an enriching academic environment where all students can thrive.
The AEO and HR Working Group is a collaborative initiative between the Office of Academic Excellence & Opportunity and Human Resources focused on developing trainings, policies, and initiatives. By combining expertise in academic success and institutional policy, the group works to create meaningful professional development opportunities, enhance campus policies, and support the learning and working environment. Through strategic collaboration, the working group advances Tulane’s commitment to fostering a community where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive.
The Anti-Discrimination Reduction Council
The Anti-Discrimination Reduction Council is a consortium of Tulane stakeholders in academic and non-academic units who meet to review and address incidents of bias as they occur, identify patterns in behavior and reports, develop proactive educational opportunities and capacity building strategies with and for various campus constituents, and advise on proposed action. The role of the Bias and Harm Reduction Council is not to investigate, respond punitively, or dictate behavior; rather, it is to serve as a group of thought leaders who explore how bias ultimately impacts the campus community and respond educationally and restoratively on a broader level.
The Accessibility Working Group
The Accessibility Working Group collaborates with campus partners, including the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility, Student Affairs, Campus Accessibility, and others to advance at Tulane. This group works to identify barriers, enhance campus resources, and develop policies that promote access to academic, social, and physical spaces. Through education and infrastructure improvements, the working group supports Tulane’s commitment to creating an environment where all students, faculty, and staff, regardless of ability, can fully participate and thrive.
The LGBT Working Group brings together key stakeholders, including Student Affairs, the Carolyn Barber-Pierre Center for Intercultural Life, and other campus partners, to support LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff at Tulane. Focused on education, policy development, and community-building, the group works to address challenges facing LGBTQ+ Through programming, resource coordination, and more, the working group strengthens Tulane’s commitment to welcoming community.
The Creating Community Professional Development Committee
The Creating Community Professional Development Committee organizes the annual Creating Community Teach-In, a university-wide event dedicated to fostering dialogue, learning, and community around Tulane’s core value of Welcoming Community. Bringing together faculty, staff, students, and local and national community partners, the committee curates workshops, panels, and discussions that address pressing issues and promote meaningful engagement. Beyond the annual event, the committee works year-round to develop professional development opportunities that equip Tulane community members with the knowledge and skills to cultivate the campus environment.
