A Volunteerism & Engagement Hub

Welcome to Community Wave: our community-driven hub for Tulane University–affiliated volunteerism and community engagement within the New Orleans community!

This platform was created to bring together students, faculty, staff, and alums who are passionate about making a difference in the New Orleans community. Whether you're based on the Uptown or Downtown campus, this space serves as a one-stop resource to discover, share, and learn about community engagement initiatives that already exist within the Tulane community.

Here, you can explore a wide range of service initiatives, connect with organizations, and learn how to support or engage with existing efforts. The goal of this website is to foster collaboration, increase accessibility to meaningful service work, and celebrate the impact our Tulane community creates together.

We believe that everyone has something valuable to offer. By making it easy to share and highlight existing work, we empower users to actively shape a living, evolving network of community engagement.

Together, we can strengthen connections, expand outreach, and build a more comprehensive and service-oriented Tulane community.

Welcome, and thank you for being part of the change.

ILP Statement

The page was initially created as a capstone project for the 2025-2026 Intercultural Leadership Program organized between the Tulane University Leadership Program (TULI) and the Office of Academic Excellence and Opportunity (AEO). To learn more about the ILP click here.

Preparing for Meaningful Engagement

Before getting involved, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on your intentions, values, and what you hope to both contribute and learn through community engagement. Approaching this work with thoughtfulness and self-awareness can help foster more meaningful and mutually beneficial connections.

Consider the following questions as a guide:

  • Who do I feel drawn to engage with, and why?
  • What are the experiences, identities, or perspectives I hold that will shape how I show up in this work?
  • What knowledge, lived experiences, or expertise do community members hold that I can learn from?
  • How will I practice listening and learning, rather than assuming I know what is needed?
  • What strengths, skills, or resources do I bring, and how can they be offered in ways that are responsive to community-defined needs?
  • How will I ensure that my engagement is respectful, consistent, and accountable to the community? In what ways might this experience shape my understanding of true community engagement?
  • How might this engagement influence my academic, professional, and personal growth?
